Peotone: The Collections
The Buchanan Collection
The artifacts pictured here are as follows:  top row, first two points are unknown,
the next two are Matanzas and the last two are most likely from the Lamoka Cluster. In the second row we start with a Saratoga and proceed to an “I don’t know”, probably someone who was learning to make points.  The last three in the middle row all fall into the Adena cluster.  In the bottom row, second artifact could possibly be a Motely although it may be a Gibson, further study is called for here by someone who knows point typology better than I.  Last two artifacts are Snyder points, all found in and around Crete, Illinois.

There is a bit of a story to that pretty Adena pictured in the middle row at the far right.  My uncle, Robert Buchanan, was out one day with a friend and they came upon a pile of dirt from a post-hole dug by a local farmer....Uncle Robert saw it first and he still smiles over that moment in time....in fact, he chuckles when he thinks back on this particular one!
