Peotone: The Collections
The Willard Pauling Collection
Stone has typed the first row as belonging to the Woodland Period. The remaining pieces are, of course, only parts of a puzzle. I prefer coming upon intact artifacts but they are few and far between. These partial artifacts aren’t exactly namable, however, using my imagination I can see Heavy Duty, Kirk, possibly the top of a once beautiful Dovetail. One knife top has a left-hand bevel on one side and a right-hand bevel on the other and has oblique transverse flaking…..intriguing. Unless Mr. Pauling would find the other missing parts I guess we all have to just keep guessing but some of these have absolutely wonderful workmanship. I know that I myself will always wonder what these artifacts would have looked like just after they were made……..and when.
