Pete's Cave Finds!

Two views of Pete's woven sandals found in a cave on a private ranch in Central Texas.
It's incredible that the sandals are in such good shape.
It's also rare to be able to examine this type of artifact close up.

More cave finds---- the long object in the left corner is an atlatl dart shaft you'll see more of later.
Note the hand woven rope, the weaving shuttle and a small piece of incised wood.
Pete noted that this was all found under 3 feet of limestone sand, followed by a layer of matting
the cave's residents placed on the floor. Artifacts were found under the layer of matting.
He also noted that sometimes several layers of occupation can be found in most caves.

A incomplete matted artifact---- probably not a sandal form as it is too large.
Again, remarkably well preserved.
