So what are we looking at here?
Well, it's a deep hole under a boulder, and is exposing a hard-to-find undug section.
From the white line downwards to the floor, turned out to be a pitlike feature with charcoal. Strange too, because there's evidence of digging on both sides and above it. The earlier diggers must have feared that the boulder would fall on them, so left this spot.
