Send Jim an email if you have an opinion as to the type of this point.
From Dirt Bro Jim Hale from Arkansas

I hope someone can offer me an opinion on this flint point I found this last week.

I went through my Sept 2001 (7th edition) copy of the Overstreet Guide and kind of think this looks like the Rice Lobbed type on page 680.

In fact 2 of the 3 pictures on the Rice Lobbed are labeled "Newton Co, AR". And this is where I live. Beech creek is on my land and is in the Boston range of the Arkansas Ozarks.

The shoulders are strong and serrated blade edges. The base is a question mark because there is some damage. I believe some of the chips off the base were caused by creek action. The base is tricky because of the damage I know. But on one side of the base where there is less damage it kind of looks the base might be lobed a little.

On both sides there could be a flute. You can feel them with fingers, it just feels like "the shaft of hafting went here".

But the Rice Lobbed type doesn't typically have fluting. If this is true fluting then this broken point gets pretty interesting.

Thanks Jim!
Bob
