The Utah Wilderness!

View from the top of a sandstone outcropping looking down on one of our first camps.  To the left you can see the jeeps we were in.  It was quite a caravan at times; five vehicles can make for a pretty odd traffic jam in the middle of nowhere.  This wonderful site is just outside of Moab.

This next one is of one of the two storied buildings in Ruin Park.  The number of freestanding stone remants, as well as cave dwellings, is really outstanding.  This one is what remains of a round tower that was either two or three stories tall, which was next to a squared room on the right side of thepicture.  In addition there was a collapsed kiva to our backs, and the stone outline of numerous other small buildings to the left of the picture.  Across asmall glen to the right was what is known as The Farmhouse, so called because early white explorers in the area assumed it had to have built by whitemen.  Ruin Park was a surprisingly large community at one time, probably in excess of a hundred in the square mile or so it entails, and much more open than the cliff dwellings commonly associated with  the area.
